The Winfield Curling Club has been a cornerstone of the local community since 1975. For 50 years, the club has provided a space for people of all ages (from 6 to 90+) to learn to curl, be part of a positive and proactive community, and enjoy a sport that can be as casual or competitive as they wish.
Each week, approximately 250 members participate in 9 leagues, including Ladies, Men’s, Mixed, Seniors, Doubles, and Juniors. At least five weekends per season are dedicated to bonspiels, which bring in both local and out-of-town teams, further supporting the broader community. The club also hosts school groups and interior zone playdowns, drawing many parents into the facility. The Winfield Curling Club has also had the honour of hosting national and international teams for practice sessions.
Throughout the season, visitors to the Nexus Recreation Centre pass by the curling club and spend time in the lounge, which offers a clear view of the sponsorship signs on the interior walls and in the ice surface. The cost of running a non-profit organization like ours is considerable, and corporate partnerships are essential in helping us break even and contribute to our contingency fund each year. Even minor mechanical issues at the club can cost thousands of dollars. As you are well aware, operating costs have risen significantly in recent years, and this has greatly impacted non-profits like us.
