I hope this note finds everyone healthy and enjoying the summer weather such as it is. Enough rain already!
It is hard to believe it is mid July and we are thinking of the upcoming curling season. Even with the Pandemic and isolation the time seems to have passed quickly. Ending the season so abruptly was a difficult decision but one that had to be made. With the league finals so close to being finished, the men’s bonspiel only days away and the windup planned, it was with great regret to close. Now we are faced with the questions about reopening. We have received guidelines put together by Curl BC. They sought guidance from the Province of British Columbia, our Provincial Health Office Dr. Bonnie Henry, and bodies that oversee public health and safety. This information has been very helpful to us and now we ask for your assistance. A survey was sent out by e-mail to all our membership (ones we had confirmed addresses for) and is on our facebook page. We ask that you take the time to participate in the survey as with your input we will have a better idea as to what direction we will proceed in.
With Covid-19 changing the way our club is managed, the board of directors are looking into financial forecasting to help us plan, illness policies, waivers to acknowledge risk, risks with the second wave of the pandemic and a plan for enhanced cleaning. We will be implementing physical measures to stop the spread (physical distancing, signage/hand sanitizing stations etc), and league modification plans. Along with league modifications there will be modified play (only 1 person sweeping) etc. These changes will be be adjusted at the Curl BC and Curl Canada level.
As we wait to hear from the District of Lake Country, Curl BC and Curl Canada with recommendations, correct protocols and rules, we are doing our best to get direction from our membership as to your concerns and desires to move forward. We are certain the game of curling will take on a different look. We have been given lots of information on return to curling and measures that need to be taken to keep our fellow curlers and staff members safe.
In approaching the next season it is with sadness that we will be loosing 2 of our fantastic and dedicated board members. Both Ursula and Danielle have gone beyond what was expected of them. As members of the curling club they will continue to assist and volunteer when needed. We cannot thank them enough for all they have done. If you are interested in becoming a board member and being part of a great organization please contact either myself or Wolf DeSmet (Manager of the Winfield Curling Club). We are available to answer any questions you may have.
In closing we ask for your feedback by taking part in the survey and letting us know your intentions for the 2020 – 2021 season. Thank you so much and enjoy the rest of your summer. We hope to see everyone in the fall as we return to the sport of curling.
