President’s Message

September 09, 2021

Hello and Welcome Back to the Curling Season of 2021 – 2022.

My name is Fern Conelley, your club president. I would like to welcome everyone back to the
2021-22 season. I hope everyone is doing well and was able to survive the extreme heat and smoke this summer.

The off season has been quite exciting as we have gone through a few renovations at the rink. The lobby is somewhat different as we now have a change room and a wheelchair accessible washroom. The ice technician room has been added on to the outside of the building and can be accessed from the ice area which makes it much better for Darren as he now has all his equipment in one room and does not have to drag hoses through the lobby. There are new entrance doors on the north side of the building and washrooms available in that lobby. Outside there are new stairs leading to the upstairs of the building on the south side. This is deemed as an emergency exit. They are not quite completed as we are hoping the district will provide some sort of a covering for them. Unfortunately we did not get the elevator we were asking for but are still hoping it will appear…someday!

As the ice is being put in and we are gearing up for the season, we ask that you please confirm with Wolf in regards to your return and registration of your teams. We are planning to proceed with our regular bonspiels this season, providing rules and regulations regarding COVID protocols does not change. At this point we are and must abide by the Provincial Health Authority and Curl BC regulations. That means anyone entering the building must provide a COVID passport showing double vaccinations and masks must be worn when moving about the building. Curl BC mandates the ice area and they have stated masks are not mandatory during play, so it is up to your and your comfort level. This seems somewhat confusing but as the saying goes: “We do not make the rules, but we have to enforce them”. With this being said we ask that our membership be kind and respectful to all members and staff as we manoeuvre ourselves through another season. The board of directors and staff are working hard to keep everyone safe and should any changes arise you will be quickly informed.

The Annual General Meeting is scheduled for October 2, 2021 at 5:30pm. The meeting will be held upstairs this year. Please bring any new ideas, questions or concerns with you as we will try to address them and provide answers the best we can. Once again we are asking for interested parties to become board members. This takes approximately 2 hours per month, with a break in the off season. If you feel you would like to assist us that would be wonderful. If you are interested but cannot attend the AGM please let myself ( Fern Conelley )  or another board member know of your intentions. Hope to see everyone there!

Thank you,
Fern Conelley
